The Origin of False Religion.

Genesis 4:3-5

“in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the Lord. And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the Lord had respect unto Abel and to his offering: But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.”

The book of Genesis chapter 4, records the first instance of false god worship in the Holy Bible. False worship is a set of beliefs or actions one takes in hopes of attaining true spirituality. A false religion can be the belief, or non belief in God or other deities that are not in line with the Most High, but rather one’s own beliefs. These beliefs appease man but fall short of God’s glory.

There is one and only one way to please God. Romans 6:5 reads, “For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his.” This is through accepting Jesus Christ as our Savior, through which we have a remission of sins, John 3:16. Any belief taken away or added to is false.

False religion is dangerous in that it shifts the focus from the Cross to selfish desire. This is what Cain did, turning from sacrifice to what he believed good enough. Abel offered a sacrifice (firstling of his flock, symbolic of Christ sacrifice in the years to come) Many false beliefs have made their way into the Church as well, causing discord and limiting the move of the Holy Spirit.

What false religions are at work today, (see the false teachings on this site for a few). Know that if Christ is not the center worship it can only be false. The Lord stated it best in John 14:6, “Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
