“The Rideshare” a Divine Gospel Ministry short story.

5 Dec

Carl Atlas is a grieving man at the end of his rope, after what he feels like as a lifetime of hopelessness and depression he plans on doing the unspeakable today. However, on a rideshare he will meet someone very special, someone who will teach him about love and survival.

Carl Atlas, a 47 year old man awakes at 7 am to start his day as a ride share driver. He sits up, letting out a solemn yawn and a stretch, before getting out of bed. He straightens and folds his sheets, placing the pillows in a nice stack. Carl takes a step back looking at his neatly arranged bed and flashes a gentle smile, before making his way into his apartment’s bathroom to brush his teeth, and shave. Afterwards, he enters his kitchen to make his favorite breakfast, pancakes with maple syrup and a tall glass of milk.

Today, he mixes in some blueberries as a special treat. He sits down and enjoys his breakfast, as if it’s the first time having a delicious meal. Once finished Carl makes his way over to the sink washing his plate, drying and then placing it back in the cupboard. Once again a gentle smile comes across his face as if a final exhausting task has been completed. Carl enters his bedroom picking out his clothes for the day, some slacks with a polo shirt and casual shoes. He grabs a light jacket as well from his closet. As always, he wants to look presentable to his customers today so that they remember his kindness and service.

Before closing his closet, he reaches onto the top shelf and pulls down a small box. He opens and removes a 38 caliber handgun, he double checks to make sure  it’s loaded before placing it inside his jacket. Carl Atlas carries a weapon with him, not for protection but today he plans on it being his last day on Earth. Carl has suffered from severe depression since he lost his son, Jon Atlas in a tragic car accident when he was only 15 years old. Carl always blamed himself for the accident, which created resentment between Carl and his wife Catherine. The two separated, selling the house, and Carl relocating to a small apartment.

He always planned on going to counseling but he never accepted what he might hear from a psychiatrist such as, “It’s not your fault Carl, these things happen.” He prayed for the guilt to be taken away but it always seemed that his prayers always fell on deaf ears. He plans to enjoy one more day, one more day that his son should have had in the sun and then end it all on the very road where Jon lost his life. His affairs are all in order, he walks out his apartment turning around to give it one last look before closing the door and starting his day.

Now sitting comfortably in his car, Carl activates the Rideshare application letting potential customers know that he was now on duty. Mornings are always very busy for him, getting patrons to work to the airport and random ones who need to get from point a to point b. His first ride is with Melissa Smith, leaving on her way to work but running slightly late. The reason she gives Carl is that her alarm never went off and her car battery unexpectedly died last night. After work she plans on having a friend  accompany her home to jump start the vehicle. She was grateful that he was available and accepted her bid for a ride. Carl relayed that he was happy to help and that he hopes that the rest of her day runs smoothly before she exits.

Ronald Wright is his next customer, a construction worker who is looking to make ends meet. He’s currently saving up enough money  to purchase his own vehicle to get him to and from work. Carl offers him a discount as a kind gesture to which the stranger appreciates. The morning continues on with more individuals from school teachers to nurses, all thanking him for his kind generosity. Carl feels it’s the least that he can do for them as well as knowing what he has planned for himself later that night. As he drives he sees so many different people getting a start to their day, from a man jogging, to a pregnant woman walking getting some exercise. The unborn child reminds him of the joy that he had when he first learned that his wife was pregnant, and then of the tragedy that would follow years later.

The day of Jon’s passing has never left him. He can still see him getting ready to attend a concert with two other of his friends. Carl had originally planned to drive the trio however, Jon’s friend had just received his license and was looking to drive. The long day at work made the decision easy for Carl to let Jon’s friend Matthew drive them. At 6 pm he arrived to pick him up. Carl and his estranged wife both gave Jon a big hug and told him to have a great time at the show, 30 minutes later the parents would receive a frantic call from Matthew that he had lost control of his vehicle around a sharp curve causing him to lose control of the vehicle and crashing head on into a tree. Himself and the other passenger survived but Jon was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

By the time Carl and Catherine arrived, it was too late, Jon had been pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the intensive care unit. The two went through the 7 stages of grief, beginning with shock, denial, anger, bargaining, depression, testing but never acceptance. His shift is winding down and Carl begins to reflect on his day knowing that these will be the last people to have any interaction with him. Right before signing off a message is received from an individual named Emmanuel Ferguson, who is looking for a ride across town. Seeing as how this is his final shift, he accepts the request and heads to the patrons destination.

Upon arriving an older middle eastern man with a slender build is standing outside of an office building. The man approaches Carl’s vehicle and speaks, hello are you my ride share he asks, yes Carl replies. The man opens the door to the rear backseat and gets in. Oh thank you, it’s been a very long day. Where we headed, ask Carl, across town if you don’t mind. The car pulls from the front entrance of the building and into traffic. Sit back and relax, you’re in good hands, says Carl.  Are you a doctor? No, I’m a psychiatrist helping those overcome unfortunate events.

Oh really a shrink? Yes, replies Emmanuel you can say that. However instead of minimizing the issue, we look for individuals to master it, as a form of overcoming. How so asks Carl, unfortunate situations happen in this world all the time he says, the majority of  time as no fault of our own. We look to confront the crisis, process it, then find resolution in moving past it. By doing so it strengthens our will as it becomes stronger in this method. Carl ponders on his current life and the way that he has dealt with his own son’s untimely passing. So in a way you’re saying theirs good in the bad? Well, somewhat, life presents us with good experiences and bad ones. It has nothing to do with how good or bad of a person we are, but these things will always happen.

It’s about how we process life events. Jay continues, Some turn to alcohol, drugs or unfortunately violence.  However none of these things allow us to process and move past the root cause.  I do agree, says Carl, it seems like people at times choose the only way out that they see. Emmanuel replies yes, it’s about stepping outside of your situation and looking at the broader picture. Reacting positively to a negative situation is always more productive for our psyche. Carl then assesses his own grief and how he’s been coping with it.

After grieving, he thought abandonment was the solution, choosing separation from his wife, instead of strengthening their relationship. Then when he couldn’t deal with himself he chose to end it. Emmanuel continues, you see no matter what the issue is, life will always go on. The world is always better with you in it Carl. A confused look comes across Carl’s face. What do you mean?  I know what you have planned later this evening and I highly discourage you from doing it. How did you know what I was thinking?

In my line of work, it’s important to be able to read people, to see their mannerisms when they speak, and when I speak. Would you please tell me what’s troubling you? Carl’s vehicle stops at a red light, giving him time to answer. I’ve been having a real hard time dealing with the death of my son Jon in a car accident. I’ve abandoned everything since he passed, to help me cope. I’m at my end now, I don’t know what else to do. The light then turns green. I see your pain Carl, but the taking of one’s life is never the answer. Death will come for all of us, but one of the cruel things about it is that it always comes when we’re not ready.

No matter if it’s when we’re old and gray, or young and full of life, death can come for us. No matter when though, we stay ready and be prepared. I’ve tried replied Carl, but I’ve lost my heart. Lost and never having one is two separate things, your acknowledgment proves your self worth. You just need to find it again. Do you remember that promise that you said to him, when he was first born. You looked him in his eyes and said that you would always love and be there for him, well guess what he’s still here. In your memories and in your spirit. It’s up to you to honor his memory by continuing to live, to love and share that with others.

Carl begins to cry when he realizes the stranger was right.  What would his son think of him now? So willing to end his life over the grief of losing him, instead of choosing to push forward to honor his memory. He realizes now that his life is not over, though this chapter has ended but a new one will begin. Just as this realization comes over him, he suddenly wonders just how Emmanuel knew about the promise that he had made to his son Jon. Carl gathers himself and inquisitively asks, how did you know that? Emmanuel gently smiles and says he told me to tell you that, for encouragement. What, who are you? I’m sorry, let me tell you my real name, my nickname is Emmanuel but everyone who knows me, calls me Jesus. Just as suddenly as these words are spoken Carl slams on the brakes and quickly turns around to find the backseat empty.

At that moment he began to cry and be overjoyed. This divine meeting changed everything in Carl Atlas’s life, first restoring his broken marriage and reconciling with his wife. He started a campaign to have the city place a sign to warn vehicles of the dangerous turn of where Jon lost his life. Furthermore, the love and compassion that was once bestowed upon his son is now given to those in need. And he does still drive his ride share and with every chance that he gets, tells his customers of the strange encounter that he once had that changed his life forever.

Why The World Needs Jesus…

16 Sep

John 3:17, “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”

While Christian believers know why they are in need of a savior for the remission of sin (Acts 2:38) and to escape death (Psalms 68 verse 20). The natural world we live in still thrives in a fallen state. A state of war, corruption, murder and crime. Jesus Christ is the cure for all its ailments. Even when there is peace in our lives somewhere, sin is operating in abundance. The current world system still operates under satanic persuasion bringing about sin and death.

While we cannot change the world overnight. Whenever and wherever we must be ready to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the unsaved, letting the Holy Spirit work to change everyone from the perishable to the to the imperishable. 1 Corinthians 9:25, “And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible.”

Saving nonbelievers from the corruption of the world, is a daunting task. However, we are backed by love and the precious blood of Jesus to do exactly just that, Shalom.

Can You Be A Christian And Not Believe  In The Crucifixion/Resurrection?

8 Apr

1 Corinthians 15:14, “And if Christ is not risen, then our preaching is empty and your faith is also empty.“

I recently heard that if you remove the crucifixion and deity from Jesus, his story is more beneficial to win non believers to the faith. While the teachings of Christ are great to adhere to regards in how to treat every man and woman, unfortunately that alone will not save you.

While Jesus Christ was sent into this Earth to show everyone how to live for YAH, His main reason was to be the offering for our sins. Ephesians 5:2, “And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.“

The actions of Jesus speaks more for humanity. In removing the separation created by sin through Adam and Eve’s original sin. Romans 6:23 reads, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.“ The Lord bore that sin in His body on the cross. 1 Peter 2:24, “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.“

Living right is never a substitute for the Cross of Christ. As the cross is the only way to be justified in the eyes of YAH. The cross is cure for humanities infirmities with living justified is a byproduct of it, Shalom.

If There Is Only One God, Why Do So Many Religions Exist?

19 Jan

Romans 2:14-15, for when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do the things in the law, these, although not having the law, are a law to themselves, who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and between themselves their thoughts accusing or else excusing them.”

If YAH is the one true God, then why do so many  religions exist? This is a great question that non-believers have asked and can be answered in two parts. Ever since the fall of man and disconnection ftom YAH, we have been seeking to find Him again. We as human beings have a natural belief of a higher moral value placed in us by the Most High.

While outside of His presence, man will always lead himself further away.  By not knowing this source of moral value some create their own god whether it’s in religion, science or in mankind itself. We try to understand this world on the best available information to us. Not having a understanding of the one true God,  cultures hence created Him in order to understand the world.

The other part is the harding of our hearts and seeking our own way. Hebrews 3:12-13 reads, “Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God; but exhort one another daily, while it is called “Today,” lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.” We having free will choose our own path which will always led to destruction.

The importance for every Christian is to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with everyone we are at liberty to. To bear witness to the one  true God in YAH and the significance of Jesus Christ death and resurrection. I pray we all can teach the Gospels in love so that they may repent and be made right in Jesus, Shalom.

Lawlessness…

28 Nov

2 Thessalonians 2:5-8, “Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.”

The dictionary defines lawlessness as a state of disorder due to a disregard for the law. This disorder is Satan’s attempt to lead the world away from any regard for authority whether it’s law or religion. This is so to establish a perfect storm for the Antichrist to seize control of this world system. Lawlessness destroys a law, marriages, beliefs in Faith and the natural order of how the world functions in an attempt to replace it with a better alternative.

The modern decay of today’s society in regards to marriage, government, authority and Faith is only fulfilling Biblical prophecy. The Apostle Paul in 2 Thessalonians 2:5-8 stated once these things have been revealed then the Antichrist will be revealed, as a false messiah that will “fix” this broken system  but to no avail. The Lord Jesus Christ is the answer to fix this broken world, through repentance of sin, and acceptance of His sacrifice at the cross. As the world continues in disarray I pray that we all turn to the Cross of Christ as the true answer to lawlessness, Shalom…

Is Living In A Sinful World A Reason To Not Believe In God?

16 Nov

2 Timothy 3:1-5, “But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,  without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God—  having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.”

Many who have fallen away from the Faith or have never received the Holy Spirit will say, “With so much bad in the world, how can anyone believe in God?” My reply is that the Bible has always predicted troubling times, since the fall of man in the Garden of Eden. Human nature since then has only been exposing its sin and the need for salvation by accepting Jesus Christ as their Savior. We must not forget that even though God (YAH) is supreme the time has not yet come for sin and death to be fully put away (Revelation 21:4).

In these times we should not lose our Faith but be strengthened by it, knowing that the Lord has his hand on us. 1 Peter 5:6 states, “Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time.” We need to remain steadfast in this world being the example of Christ for hope of better times in the new Kingdom Age. Should we lose Faith in the face of evil? No, in knowing the scriptures recorded these circumstances and provided the answer to it in Jesus Christ, Shalom…

Are You Replacing Jesus In Your Life?

11 Aug

1 Timothy 4:1, “Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons.”

As we move closer to the second coming of Jesus, it’s alarming to see how the world has steadily removed Christ as our Lord and Savior. First removing prayer in public schools, work, social gatherings and now by encouraging those lost spiritually to focus on physical self improvement and worldly development. Now instead of finding a Church, individuals are joining gyms, meditation groups or choosing to invest more time into making money and furthering their careers in hope of filling that void.

The enemy looks to replace the finished work of Jesus at the cross with a false gospel. One that will satisfy you for the moment but will not save you from sin. Pain, hurt, anxiety are all the result of the sin nature in us. Working out and meditating on positive things may help for a moment but only Jesus can truly save us. Acts 4:12  “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Jesus Christ died for everything one time so we would not die by it many times. In times of trials we need to stand firm on our faith and in prayer, asking for guidance and direction

The Bible states in James 4:8, “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” Turn to the Most High when adversity arises and not the world’s alternative. In Jesus, the Holy Spirit will guide your life and decisions for your best interest and YAH’s new world, Shalom…

The Heretic Christian…

17 Mar

Galatians 1:8-9, But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.”

The Heretic Christian is one of the single most destructive forces in the Church today. Heresy is defined as, “any belief or theory that is strongly at variance with established beliefs or customs, in particular the accepted beliefs of a church or religious organization.” Heretics pick and choose which parts of the Gospel they preach in order to cover their sins or the sins of others to win them to Christ but instead leads them to their destruction.

For example, the once saved, always saved doctrine is heretical as it conflicts with 2 Peter :20-22, “For if, after they have escaped the pollutions of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in them and overcome, the latter end is worse for them than the beginning. For it would have been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than having known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered to them.”

Only those who repent are truly saved by the grace of YAH (Ephesians 2:8-9) for when we do sin we can be given mercy (Acts 3:19). The same can be said for homosexuality which is condemned in the Old (Lev 18:22) and New Testaments (Romans 1:27) some condone the sin, in order to save those entrapped by it.

Whereas heretics turn from the truth we as Disciples of Jesus Christ need to embrace it! John 8:32 reads,“And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” That truth is standing on sound Biblical doctrine as the only way to be saved.

There is an abundance of false teachings that dilutes the scriptures found in the Holy Bible. We need to be aware of these lies and if needed correct in love and allow the truth to set us free from sin, Shalom…

Serve YAH, Not Man…

8 Mar

Matthew 6:24, “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.”

The dire need and eagerness to teach all the Gospel of Jesus Christ, can conflict with our Faith. While we are called to profess Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior (Matthew 28:18-20) we can never hold back the full truth when needed in fear of offending some.

I’ve seen many Christian men and women in secular settings tip toe around subjects that the Bible clearly condemns, in order to meet the needs of the unsaved. They present a watered down Gospel that can never truly change an individual in order to be Christlike. They meet the need of man instead that of YAH.
The Gospel is supposed to stir those who hear it  into repentance (Matthew 4:17) to be more like Jesus and not nurture a worldly lifestyle. When asked by whomever, What does the Bible say about fornication, homosexuality, and any other topic we must hold firm to what the Bible has recorded and not say what people want to hear.

We must always choose YAH’s word and not our own to reach the world. Speak firmly but in love of what YAH has ordained and what Jesus affirmed at the Cross. Though we may not win everyone at that moment, seeds can be planted so that one day the revelation of Jesus Christ may manifest within them, Shalom.

A Great Reset or New World Order?

27 Jan

Revelations 13: 16-17, “He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.”

The Great Reset Initiative is an economic recovery plan designed by the World Economic Forum in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, to affect environment, social and government affairs worldwide.

The foundation, which is mostly funded by its 1,000 member companies – typically global enterprises with more than $5 billion in turnover – as well as public subsidies, views its own mission as “improving the state of the world by engaging business, political, academic, and other leaders of society to shape global, regional, and industry agendas”

Out of every tragedy comes the opportunity to good and evil. I’m always skeptical when decisions are made for the majority by the small elite minority. In no way am I saying that this is the biblical new world order eluded to in the book of Revelations, but it may a precursor to it. Mankind has always tried to attain something that only a relationship with Jesus Christ can, peace.

The scriptures state in 1 John 4:1, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.” I pray as we move forward in these last days that we test the spirits and stay informed on every world event, looking forward to the true Prince of Peace to bring harmony and stability to this world, Shalom…
